FreePBX SIP Phone Deployment Server
Problem:
- The Cisco solution would necessitate a full hardware migration, resulting in an estimated cost of up to $350,000 for replacement.
- The Erie 2 BOCES phone system (Mitel MiVoice 5000) is approaching its end of life and requires replacement.
- The existing phone models (Mitel 5320, 5340, and 5340e) are no longer compatible with the latest software versions. Consequently, the school intends to transition to a Cisco-based solution.
TECHNOLOGIES:
- Linux
- Asterisk
- FreePBX
- PostgreSQL
- LDAP
- SIP
- TFTP Provisioning
- Active Directory
- Site-to-Site VPN
- DHCP Relay
SOLUTION:
- Debian server hosting FreePBX connects to phones across network, configured for SIP Registration, and Endpoint Deployment.
- Features include IVR (Auto Assistant), Call Recording, SIP Trunking, Domain Registration and Extension Mapping, and TFTP Provisioning.
- System is Significantly less expensive and allows more granular control from admins.
This solution was presented to the Erie 2 BOCES IT team, and at Capitol’s Well for the BOCES Expo in Albany!
